Day 7 (Christmas Eve!!)

My run today consisted of a slightly longer run than usual, with a sprint up a hill near my house. Everything was fine until after I'd done the hill, unfortunately, the wheezing began. In future, I'll have to remember to take preventative measures because it was rather annoying! Now I'm back at home and preparing to make a cake...yum. And Merry Christmas!

Day 3 (20/12/2012)

A bit late with this post because I was absolutely knackered last night after revision and just wanted to read my book :3.
The weather was horrendous yesterday - pouring with rain and blowing a gale - and I feel quite proud of myself that I still went out for a half hour run! I ran about 5k, mainly along roads, and managed to get splashed by cars several times...not impressed! I also learnt that I can't run after I've eaten any amount of food. I stupidly pigged out on maltesers and minstrels that my brother had brought home from school and felt the consequences in the form of a massive stitch for the majority of my run!
Carrying on from this, I really feel that nutrition is something that I'm going to have to work on in the next few weeks because my diet at the moment consists of a lot of sugary things. I'm looking at incorporating more sources of protein into my diet, as well as cutting back on the chocolate!

Day 2 (19/12/2012)

Ok so silly me misread the training schedule and today is actually my rest day, with tomorrow resembling some kind of HIIT/Fartlek style run which is the same duration as yesterday's but with changes in speed. I am planning on incorporating a hill run into my training this week as well because I've heard that this can be extremely beneficial to runners, even when training for races held on flat terrain. As well as this, I also hope to combine the running with cross-training and some weights at the gym - partly so that I can still keep part of my pre-revision usual routine and partly so that I don't get bored of running!

First Post!

I went for my first 'training run' today. It was cold, but not as bad as I expected it to be considering that the only exercise I've been doing recently is walking up hills. Fair enough, I was only out for about half an hour but it has allowed me to gauge how hard I will need to train over the next few months! I'm following Lucozade's beginner half-marathon training plan (http://www.lucozade.com/perform/running/half-marathon/), which is a 12 week long plan designed specifically for inexperienced runners. My next run is tomorrow and then I have a rest day!
